I often give credit to Pete Seeger, along with Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, for my graduating high school.

One of the most important musical figures in modern history for his transcendent activism and love songs.

Pictured is his famous banjo head, which I got to see a few weeks ago at the Virginia Historical Society. It reads, "This Machine Surrounds Hate and Forces It To Surrender." If I had it my way, I would put this piece of history next to the Declaration of Independence.

To agree with Arlo Guthrie's statement today, "Well, of course he's passed away! But, that doesn't mean he's gone!" Pete Seeger's spirit will stay with us on either side of nature.

Mikaela Davis, the harpist, singer and songwriter from Rochester, N.Y., makes vaguely hipster harp music. I say vaguely because the former harpist for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra has more than a little “twerk” in her step.
