The guest for episode 11 of Discovering Central Kentucky Music with Randy Westbrook is Jeff Schmidt from the band Superfecta! One would be hard pressed to find a band from the central Kentucky area that has played more weddings and private parties in the last twenty years than Superfecta. I was a member of this R'n'B/soul/funk/jazz band from 2013 to 2018, so it was great to catch up. Jeff and I played a public domain jazz standard entitled "Bye Bye Blackbird" near the end of the episode.

The Richmond Area Arts Council is looking forward to this year's Arts Gala! The event will take place on the stage at the EKU Center for the Arts. Tickets can be purchased on our website at www.artsinrichmond.org, by calling 859-624-4242, or by visiting the Richmond Area Arts Center at 399 W. Water St. The musical entertainment will be provided by Kelly Caldwell and Kashmere, and Randy Westbrook will be sitting in on keys. Kelly is highly regarded in bluegrass and Americana circles, but the Kashmere project is more focused on rock/pop/R'n'B with sets including covers by artists including Pat Benatar, Blondie, Chicago, The Go-Go's, Al Green, Katrina and the Waves, The Outfield, The Pretenders, Toto, Bill Withers, and many other artists.

The Richmond Area Arts Council will be offering line dance classes starting on September 14! Jonathan Tevis is the instructor. Tuition is only $50 for five classes. Classes will take place on Mondays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Richmond Area Arts Center. Registration is available at www.artsinrichmond.org under "classes."

The Richmond Area Arts Council will host a Moonlight and Masquerade Arts Gala this year on Sunday, Oct. 4 at the EKU Center for the Arts from 6:00-9:00 p.m.! Masks are encouraged but not required. Attire is semiformal, but formal wear is also appropriate. Entertainment will include performances by Kelly Caldwell and Kashmere, the Salsa Center of Lexington, and Jason Lindsey aka "Mr. Science." The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by EKU Catering, a silent auction, and a cash bar. This year's Pops at the Park will take place tomorrow! Tickets are still available online at www.artsinrichmond.org or you can buy tickets at the gate. Visit Richmond Kentucky, the Richmond Area Arts Council, and the Pops at the Park Board have worked hard to put the event together this year, and it looks like it's going to be a great day to be outside.

Lawn seats for Pops at the Park are available for only $15.00 per person at www.artsinrichmond.org under “events” or you can purchase tickets the day of the event! Folding chairs are encouraged. This should be a great year for Pops at the Park, and the event also helps to support the arts.
