The guest for episode 9 of Discovering Central Kentucky Music with Randy Westbrook is Dr. John Stroube! Dr. Stroube is the executive director of the Kentucky Music Educators Association and the founder and conductor of the Madison Community Band. He will be conducting the Madison Community Band and the Madison Singers for the American Musical Salute concert on July 3. Dr. Stroube will also serve as the director for the Madison Community Band's Pops at the Park performance on August 15. Lori Murphy Tatum, executive director of Richmond Tourism, joined us at the 25:50 mark to discuss Pops at the Park. I played a solo piano version of "America" near the end of the episode.

The Richmond Area Arts Council will host its annual members' meeting at 7:00 p.m. this Thursday, June 25. The meeting will take place at the Richmond Area Arts Center located at 399 W. Water St. All of those who paid their membership dues between July 2025 and June 2026 are welcome to attend the meeting. The executive director of the arts council will give an update concerning the 2025-2026 fiscal year including information related to programs and events.

The Summer Music Series at Richmond Centre continues this Friday, July 19, with 3 Men & a Banjo! 3 Men & A Banjo is an Appalachian swing and string band trio based in Berea, Kentucky. The group consists of Randall Conn (banjo and vocals), Tyler Conn (mandolin and vocals), and Jeff Richey (upright bass and vocals). They blend traditional bluegrass instrumentation with folk, jazz and other styles. The series is sponsored by Redi Mart, Richmond Centre, and the Richmond Area Arts Council. All of the concerts in the series take place from 7:00-10:00 p.m. on Fridays and are free.

The Richmond Area Arts Council's Blues, Soul, & Bar-B-Que fundraiser will return to Chenault Vineyards on July 12 from 7:00-10:00 p.m.! The band will include Ronnie Amburgey (vocals and harmonica), George "Boogie" G" Burdette (bass and vocals), Mack Davenport (percussion), Mike Howard (guitar and vocals), Vera Stonestreet Paige (vocals), Phillip Marmo (drums), Charles Ritchie (sound), and I'll be on keys. We’ll be playing a wide variety of legendary electric blues, blues rock, and classic soul tunes. A fantastic luau-style pig roast will be provided by Straight from Texas Bar-B-Que, and a cash bar will be available. The event is sponsored by Ridings Insurance and Financial Services, Michael and Ty Hart, First Southern National Bank, Stockyards Bank & Trust, Custom Photo, and Chenault Vineyards.

Tickets are $50.00 and are available through the Richmond Area Arts Council website at www.artsinrichmond.org under "Events," by calling 859-624-4242, or by visiting the Richmond Area Arts Center at 399 W. Water St.
