If you are anywhere nearby, come see our performance of traditional Japanese puppetry at the Lyric Theater in Blacksburg, Virginia, Thursday. September 13 at 7:00 PM. Admission is free.

The live performance will also include a screening of "Kaiju Bunraku," the short film starring the puppets of Bunraku Bay that premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and has been shown at many other film festivals around the world.

Bunraku Bay is heading to Miami, Florida this Saturday, August 15, for five days of filming. A movie director whose work has been screened at Sundance Film Festival is shooting a substantial scene of Bunraku puppets for a film. We are providing the puppetry. Our newest puppet head will be portraying the husband and one of our veteran female heads will be the wife. I'm working on new costumes for the bodies now.

At the farewell reception for performers at the Iida Puppetry Festival in Nagano Prefecture in Japan on August 9, 2015. We had a chance to have our Lion Dance lion puppet bite the head (for good luck!) of one of the best of our friends/fans/supporters--the Honorable Mitsuro Makino, mayor of the city of Iida. We gave five performances at the Festival, our tenth year at the Iida Puppetry Festival.

After a hiatus of about a year and a half, Bunraku Bay will be roaring back into action with performances at the Houston Japan Festival on April 18 & 19, 2015. Because of the threat of a line of incoming thunder clouds, they compressed the performance is at the festival today in St Louis and had us perform early. Now the festival is closing up. So, if anybody is on their way to the festival to see us perform at 6 o'clock , you will find an empty festival grounds and we will already be gone. Sorry. The weather did not comply.
