A celebration of Love is more than just an evening or a day; it’s a lifestyle. The Eggceptions is a series of plays that combines cutting edge theatre techniques along with dynamic workshops to inspire singles and couples and educate them about experiencing the greatest love of their lives. After being entertained and inspired, you’ll get relationship advice from the experts. Talk to the experts, one-on-one or with your spouse, for more advice in a private setting. The play was inspired by the story of Mildred and Richard Loving from the Loving vs. Virginia Supreme Court decision. It is an entertaining and exciting new way to look at a couple who found love, overcame obstacles and survived and thrived through the demands of marriage. It is great for Valentine’s Day and making a resolution to enjoy the love of your life all year long. The Eggceptions play evolved from an experimental theatre workshop designed for men who wanted to be better fathers and husbands despite personal challenges. The actors were more than characters: They were role models. These men showed how they overcame their personal demons to become successful fathers and husbands. The workshop that accompanied the play dealt with issues of new fatherhood through a boot camp for new dads program in Richmond. Based on follow-up surveys, the experimental theatre workshop concept was a huge success for men. There were some exciting results from the other audience members as well. The survey responses from women who attended with their husbands, sons and friends were extraordinary insightful. Women loved the new theatre workshop concept but wanted to explore other relationship issues such as communication, s*x, finance and more. Both the men and women also wanted to see female characters portraying a successful family overcoming external and internal challenges. Also some single men had questions about selecting a spouse and preparing for marriage, which was not in the original scope of the project, but was included in the Eggceptions series. The name “Eggceptions” comes from listening to bleak and horrible marriage/divorce statistics across all segments of society in all types of relationships. If you listen to the news, you might consider giving up on ever having a successful relationship. Despite the grim marriage/divorce statistics, the purpose of the plays and workshops is to produce couples who are the “exceptions” to the disappointing relationships rule. The play inspired a new twist that you will understand when you see it and the project became the EGGCEPTIONS. The first installment of the Eggceptions Play and Love Resolutions Workshops series is “Love Against All Odds.” It will hold its world premiere February 13 & 14, 2016 in Richmond, VA.
