Before and After of "October's Brilliance" painted by Ethel Gilmore in N.Y.C. in 1948. Oil on artist's panel, 16" x 20". Covered in grime and yellowed varnish, this made a satisfying change! From a dull day to a brilliant one as the title states. Gorgeous colors! We are always happy to discover another female artist. Ethel (1894-1984) lived mostly in Cape May, New Jersey. She had a long career with many exhibits and winning awards for her art. She taught high school art, and married Charles Roman, sometimes going by Ethel Roman. We had no idea who the artist of this work was until we got it into the studio and took the paper off the back. She inscribed it in pencil on the back. So grateful that it's easy to read!
