Potential

This piece was designed to illustrate the incredible potential found in even the tiniest of seeds. The pod was turned on a lathe from Red Mallee burl, and the root and sprout were carved from maple, with the sprout being painted with acrylics.

I was on the Cherry Branch to Minnesott Beach Ferry in North Carolina when I photographed the reference photo for this painting. It was a beautiful evening. I painted this as a horizontal first and then decided to make a vertical.
