Blue Honey by Donté Clark is a mirror held up to Richmond’s past and present. Through layered storytelling and poetic expression, Donté brings forward issues that are not just history, but realities many in our community are still navigating today.
What stands out is how the film uses poetry as a tool for liberation, inviting us to slow down, reflect, and question the systems and patterns that continue to shape our lives. It doesn’t just inform; it asks us to feel, to remember, and to imagine something different.
There’s a rhythm to the storytelling that feels intentional, almost like a heartbeat connecting past struggles to present conditions. It highlights how cycles of inequity, displacement, and resilience continue to exist, especially in places like Richmond.

Honored to celebrate a $34 million investment in our neighborhoods, our stories, and our future. The library has always been more than a building, it’s a place of access, imagination, and belonging.
Libraries transform communities by opening doors to knowledge, opportunity, and connection.

Here’s to spaces that hold our history and help us dream forward. 📚💛

Yesterday’s meeting agenda was packed, but we made it! The past few months have been intense, and we’re proud to continue standing together, supporting one another and creating space for more voices from our community.

We also took time to celebrate Commissioner Carole’s birthday and to warmly welcome two new commissioners to the team. Grateful for the commitment, resilience, and heart everyone brings to this work!

It was meaningful to see current and former commissioners come together to honor the life of Winifred Day. The gathering reflected years of service, shared history, and the many different ways people show up in public work.
Winifred’s time in leadership left its mark, and her life touched many across seasons and roles. Coming together in this moment reminded us of the importance of acknowledging one another’s contributions and the collective journey we share in serving our community.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to be present and pay their respects.
