Please welcome our new Tiger Band Assistant Director, Mr. Peter Girgenti!

Mr. Girgenti is excited to begin his first year teaching with the Travis High School Band! He attended Cy-Fair HS, the University of Houston, and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s in Music Education. As a trombonist, he is proud to have studied with Brian Kauk, Dr. Donn Schaefer, and principal trombonist of the Utah Symphony, Mark Davidson.

Mr. Girgenti has performed with many concert bands, jazz ensembles, chamber groups, and marching bands at both the University of Houston and the University of Utah. He marched for the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps in 2018 & 2019, and was a featured bass trombonist in 2019. Mr. Girgenti has also served on staff as a production assistant for the Bluecoats since 2023.

Mr. Girgenti’s teaching and leadership experience spans both Texas and Utah. His marching band programs have advanced to BOA Regional Finals, earned visual caption awards, and broken long-standing school records. He is passionate about strengthening the music education profession. He provided pre-service music teacher training at the University of Utah, worked as a youth workshop counselor for the International Trombone Association, and his work is published in the January 2026 NAfME Teaching Music magazine as lead author of “Composing Character Motifs: Variations on a Creative Lesson Idea.”

Outside of education, Mr. Girgenti (aka Mr. G) enjoys golfing, skiing, discovering new music, and spending time with his wife, Kelsey.
