CAVOC, Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom, is part of the 1200-plus acre school forest for the School District of Rhinelander. The forest, which houses hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing trails and a ROPES course, is open year-round to the public. Rominsky Lodge, which is currently being expanded, is available for groups to reserve to use for family, business and community events. You can email [email protected], if interested.

🌿 First Grade Adventures at the School Forest! 🐞

Our Crescent Elementary first graders had an amazing day at CAVOC yesterday! They went on a nature hike and scavenger hunt, discovered fascinating things in the forest, and even learned how to draw insects — complete with their head, thorax, and abdomen! 🪲

Students also explored how different insects eat, made beautiful leaf rubbings, and had a blast playing on the Playscape. What a wonderful day of learning, discovery, and fun for our young scholars! 🍂✨

🍂🎃 Fun Fall Adventures at CAVOC! 🎃🍂

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 100 K–5 students from Nativity School to CAVOC! The day was packed with amazing activities — from pumpkin relay races, storytime, and leaf art to building apple towers, roasting s’mores around the campfire, tackling the Challenge Ropes Course, and a special game of Capture the Flag!

A huge thank you to Nativity School for spending the day at the School Forest and making it such a memorable experience filled with learning, laughter, and outdoor fun! 🌳🔥🍎

🌲 CAVOC Volunteer Spotlight: Bob Cook 🌲

We’re thrilled to highlight Bob Cook, who has generously volunteered his time and talents at CAVOC for several years!

Bob is an active leader with the Northwoods Nordic Ski Club, and through that involvement, he began helping at CAVOC by maintaining and grooming our incredible trail system. Over the years, his dedication has only grown — Bob is now a key member of our School Forest Advisory Committee and serves on our Work Day Subcommittee as well.

His expertise, enthusiasm, and hands-on skills make him an invaluable part of our team. We’re deeply grateful for Bob’s hard work, commitment, and passion for making CAVOC an amazing place for everyone to enjoy! 🌿

🌦️ Our kindergarteners from Pelican School had a very special visitor at CAVOC today! Chief Meteorologist Geoff Weller from WJFW stopped by to share some super cool weather knowledge with our young scholars. 🌈🌪️

🌼 What a wonderful day at the School Forest! 🌲
Our Central School kindergarteners had a blast at CAVOC today, exploring all sorts of fun activities — including a tour of the beautiful pollinator garden! 🐝🌸

They were also the very first group to dive into the brand-new Pollinator Library 📚🐞 — how exciting!

🍂🌲 First Grade Forest Fun! 🌲🍂
Our first graders from Central School had an amazing day out at CAVOC! They took part in a variety of hands-on activities that brought learning to life in the great outdoors. One favorite was the Leaf Man lesson, where students used leaves, acorns, and other natural treasures to create their own unique nature people. 🌿👦🍁

From exploring the forest to getting creative with nature, it was a day full of adventure, discovery, and fun!

🍂 Outdoor Learning Adventure at CAVOC! 🌳

Our 4K, 5K, 1st, and 2nd graders had an amazing day exploring nature at CAVOC! The students collected acorns for the DNR, went on a colorful leaf hunt, and grouped their finds by size, color, and shape. 🍁🍃

They also created beautiful bead bracelets to go along with a story about a tree and participated in a fun scavenger hunt. 🔎They spotted birds, feathers, spider webs, bees, and even ants! 🐦🕸️🐜

A big thank you to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who helped make this day such a success! 💚
