This week at Starr Cinema...

POWER BALLAD, starring our hometown hero Paul Rudd, opens 6/5, and creative heist thriller TUNER enters its second week.

In Group: The Schopenhauer Effect, a Manhattan therapy group is thrown off balance when a participant expresses his desire to write a TV show based on their sessions. Producer Jack Lechner will join the star Elliot Zeisel for the post-screening Q&A on Sunday, June 7th.

And on Wednesday, June 10th, we'll see The Human Scale, a documentary that examines city planning and how little of it actually benefits how humans naturally live and thrive, but instead centers cars and capital, with a talkback from Matthew Lister and William Dunwoody.

In Aleshea Harris’ incendiary debut, two twin sisters embark on an epic quest for catharsis, confronting a charged family history that will push them to extraordinary lengths. “We come from a man who wanted to kill our mama, and a mama who wants to kill that man,” one says matter-of-factly. Though it’s faithfully adapted from Harris’ celebrated 2018 Off-Broadway play, the film has a bracing cinematic sensibility from Quentin Tarantino’s pulp poetry to the minimalism of spaghetti western minimalism to the swaggering excesses of Blaxploitation. Both wildly entertaining and viciously upsetting, this remarkable debut boldly reaps what others have sown.
