Slide 2 has some of the bits and bobs floating in the cup holder of my car, as seen this morning.

I will never tire of these acorns. The earrings are all handmade, one by one, just like the pendants.

The very first time I saw Q. agrifolia, a decade ago now, I was at a silent meditation retreat in California.

I was wandering the miles of hiking trails surrounding the compound, and didn’t have my phone (it’s supposed to be silent and tech free), so I couldn’t look it up when I saw something that struck me as very unusual:

The almost needle-like acorns of the California Live Oak surprised me, and although the seed itself looked like nothing have ever seen before (having only lived in Europe and then the US’s East Coast), what confused me most was the leaves. There was nary resemblance to what I’ve come to recognize as an oak leaf. They were oval with little spikes along the edges.

If you know me, you likely know I have a deep love for oak trees, and there’s always at least one acorn (or pebble, or other seeds I’ve stumbled upon) in my pocket.

It’s been a process, but I’m starting to get more comfortable and confident in layering pieces.

For a long time I would look at many of you in the jewelry loving community and admire the way you’d put pieces together.

Somehow, when I did it, despite loving and having actually made many of the pieces I wear, I would feel like I was playing dress up.

There’s still a lot of room for improvement, but I’m getting there.

I recoded this earlier - fear not, I’m past this hurdle and am making some other things for the holiday market.

Maybe I can make some of these Medieval creatures into something still …bookmarks? Something else? What do you think?

But yes, it is not unheard of for me to get excited about an idea, dedicate a lot of time to it, and end up right where I started. I suspect at least some of you are familiar with this game yourselves :)

The bright side, is that almost always learns something.
