After years of condemning censorship, “cancel culture,” and claims that conservatives were being silenced, President Trump and others are now using similar tactics in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death.
・・・
In recent days, people have lost their jobs for remarks about Kirk — professors, attorneys, journalists and employees of airlines and other private companies have been fired or suspended for posts deemed insensitive or critical. One of the most high-profile cases is Jimmy Kimmel, whose late-night show was suspended indefinitely after he criticized how Kirk’s death was being politicized. Affiliates pulled the program and officials cheered the suspension, with Trump calling for NBC to remove Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon next.

The movement that once condemned cancel culture is now embracing it to punish ideological opponents.

“If you don't like someone else's views, then don't listen,” Kirk said in a post on Twitter in 2020. “You don't have to silence people, erase history, or cancel our culture to feel ‘safe’ in America.”
