I became a casualty of his demons.
Living with someone who was fighting their own demons left me carrying pain I’m still trying to put into words.
The clenched jaw. The tight shoulders. The stomach that dropped at a change in his voice. Being exhausted and still unable to settle enough to sleep.
Even in the quiet moments, I was waiting. Watching his mood. Choosing my words. Trying to figure out which version of him I would be living with that day.
There was always another crisis. Another reason my exhaustion could wait. I kept getting through the days while my body carried more than I could admit.
Now I’m facing what those years cost me. Emotionally. Physically. The rest that never felt restful. The tension I barely noticed anymore because it had become my normal.
His struggles took up so much space that there was barely room for me to be a person with needs of my own.
I was hurting, too. I was exhausted, too. And I shouldn’t have had to reach my breaking point for that to matter.
I became a casualty of his demons.
I’m out now, but my body still braces. And it’s f**king devastating to realize how much of my life I spent just trying to get through the day.
Stay soft. Stay savage. Show the f**k up. 🌙
