Voyager takes the crown on BBC America. 👑

BBC America holds the rights to air both The Original Series and The Next Generation, yet it is Star Trek: Voyager that remains the channel's most popular Trek series. 🖖 Farewell, Apollo. Michael Forest, the towering actor who played the Greek god in Star Trek: The Original Series, has died at 97.

Michael Forest has passed away at the age of 97, dying on Wednesday at MorningStar Senior Living in Sparks, Nevada, with the news announced on Friday by his friend James A. Brown. For Star Trek fans he will always be Apollo from the much loved 1967 episode Who Mourns for Adonais?, where the Enterprise crew comes face to face with the last of the Olympian gods on Pollux IV. It was a single guest appearance, yet it became one of the most memorable performances in the show's history.

Winning the role was not easy, Forest read for the producers three times before he was cast, and his height, rich voice and quiet sadness made Apollo far more than a typical villain of the week. The episode asked a very Star Trek question, what becomes of a god when humanity no longer needs him? Away from Trek he built a career of more than 200 credits, stretching from Roger Corman films in the 1950s to a striking turn in The Twilight Zone episode Black Leather Jackets.

His story with Apollo did not end in 1967. In 2013 he returned to the role in the fan series Star Trek Continues, playing the god once more nearly five decades later and giving him the farewell the original episode only hinted at. He also built a second career behind the microphone, lending his voice to anime, the Power Rangers franchise and World of Warcraft. Another beloved piece of original series history has left us, but his Apollo remains as powerful as ever. 🕊️
