Tune in to Studio C5 tonight to hear all about the groundbreaking film, "Akira" in our latest stop in our trek through the History of the Animated Film.

From fairy tale… to fearless.

Over the past three months, we’ve been exploring the evolution of animation—and with it, the evolution of the female protagonist.

It started with characters like Snow White—
kind, gentle… but with little control over her own story.

Then came characters like Mrs. Brisby—
small, vulnerable, but driven by courage and agency.
She didn’t wait to be saved—she made choices.

And now… we arrive at Major Motoko Kusanagi.

A character who doesn’t just survive—
she leads, fights, questions, and defines her own existence.

"Ghost in the Shell" represents the culmination of that evolution—
where animation becomes philosophical, powerful, and deeply human.

Join us March 26 as we close out our History of Animation series with the film that brings it all full circle.

For three months, we’ve been on a journey through the history of animation.

From the early dominance of Disney…
to the rebellion of Don Bluth…
to the rise of anime as a global force…

And now—we arrive at the film that changed everything.

"Ghost in the Shell"

The final stop in our History of Animated Film series and the culmination of our weekly conversations on Studio C5 on KNVC 95.1 FM and our monthly film screenings at Brewery Arts Center.

This is where animation becomes philosophy.
Where technology meets identity.
Where the future begins.

Join us March 26 at the Brewery Arts Center for the screening—and stay for a post-film discussion as we bring this entire journey full circle.

🎬✨ Support Nevada Filmmakers! ✨🎬

We’re excited to share "Holy Shift," a hilarious and heartfelt short film produced by Nevada artists that uses comedy to explore gender identity and family in a way that’s equal parts funny and thoughtful. Based right here in Reno, NV, this project brings local voices and q***r stories to the screen in a big way.

Right now, the filmmakers are in a 48-hour fundraising window with a matching grant, which means every dollar you give goes even further in helping them hit their goal! 🙌

Whether you can pledge or just share the campaign with your friends, every bit of support counts. Let’s help get this important work made and celebrate the incredible creatives in our state!

Evangelical parents, Nora and Mike, are desperately worried that their teenager is exploring gender identity. Inspired by a prayer circle humblebrag, they decide the best way to end this ‘phase’ is to make gender-q***r terminally uncool by swapping genders themselves.
