Kicking off the school year with our first choir leadership meeting! We’re so excited to see so many new faces and we can’t wait to see what this year has in store!🎶

“Sing On!” is a choral showcase featuring hundreds of tenor/bass singers from WCSD middle schools, high schools, and surrounding areas. This one-day event will include rehearsals with a guest conductor (Blake Richter), a vocal workshop, and a joint performance that same afternoon at 4:00 pm. The “Never Too Late” barbershop quartet will be our openers. Your student will have the opportunity to sing and perform with local WCSD middle school and high school tenor/bass singers, and special guest performers. This will be Saturday, September 19th at Billinghurst Middle School. Check in begins at 8:30am.
Concert admission is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.

McQueen High School Students Develop Leadership Skills at International Choral Conference

Three members of McQueen High School’s music program recently had the opportunity to participate in NextDirection, an international choral leadership conference held at UW-Parkside in Wisconsin.

Emma Supencheck, Hannah Haas, and Kiana Pursel spent three days exploring what it means to lead with purpose, confidence, empathy, and vision.

Working alongside nationally recognized Dr. Jeff Douma from Yale University, choral educators, and leadership experts, students examined the qualities that make effective leaders in music and beyond. Through interactive workshops and collaborative learning experiences, participants developed skills in communication, teamwork, facilitation, and servant leadership while learning how to inspire and support others.

This ongoing involvement reflects one of the greatest strengths of the McQueen music programs: students continue to grow as leaders, educators, and advocates for music long after they leave the classroom. Their commitment to serving others and giving back to the musical community exemplifies the values fostered through music education.

Congratulations to all of this year’s NextDirection participants. We are proud of the leadership, character, and dedication they demonstrate, and of the positive impact they are making through the power of music.

Our choir retreat is just around the corner, and we are so excited to kick off another amazing year together! Here are some things you’ll need for this upcoming event:

🎒 Backpack/Bag
📁 Choir Binder/Folder
💧 Water Bottle
✏️ Pencils
📓 Journal/Notebook
📱 Device for playing part tracks (Phone, Laptop, iPad, etc.)
👕 A change of clothes you don’t mind getting stained or dirty

🥪 Lunch will be provided! If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please bring a cold lunch.

Lastly, bring a positive attitude and a willingness to make music! 🎵 We’re starting off a brand new school year, and we can’t wait to sing, learn, laugh, and grow together.

Mr. Pierce and Ms. Li are looking forward to seeing all of you at retreat! 💙
