Welcoming Vitalii Kusaiko to the Post Playa feature at this year's RTIA Show - opening TOMORROW NIGHT!! Tickets at www.rtiashow.com 🎫✨

MOTH () is a monumental sculpture about holding two worlds within one body — Eastern and Western, light and shadow, contradiction without resolution.

The final metamorphosis:
After its return from the desert, MOTH stands without its wings — not lost, but set aside. The wings remain, whole, resting at the figure's feet. Nothing was broken. Something was chosen.
For years the wings meant elsewhere: the pull upward, the dream of flight, the refusal to fully arrive. Here, the figure sets them down — not because it can no longer fly, but because it no longer needs to.
What remains stands heavier, and truer. Three arms still reach outward — will, understanding, exploration — but the body no longer strains to leave the ground. It is present, anchored, complete.
A being that no longer chases the light has not been defeated. It has learned where it stands. This is the final metamorphosis: not the becoming of something that flies, but the becoming of something that stays.

The Basque Feature returns to the RTIA Show for the third year!
Presented in collaboration with University of Nevada Reno’s William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies, the Basque feature is a celebration of Reno’s unique tie to Basque people and culture. The feature includes the work of contemporary Basque artists:

- Joan Arrizabalaga
- Alex Arciniega
- Zoe Bray
- Lara Hurtado
- Pilar Soberon
- Sortwo
- Leire Urbeltz

And Ways of Being Basque will also feature a new research-exhibition about Basque-American murals across the American West featuring works from 1987 to 2026.

Emily Christensen () is joining the Heart of Reno segment for the RTIA Show (Opening Thursday night!!). Emily earned her M.A. in Depth Psychology and Creativity, with an emphasis in the Arts and Humanities, from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is an artist and piano teacher whose creative process engages a Jungian Arts-Based Research methodology to explore creativity as a bridge between psyche and art.

From the artist:
“I create sculptural bricolage from reclaimed pianos, transforming instruments that have fallen silent into symbols of psychological renewal. By dismantling and reconstructing piano keys, strings, and wood into new forms, I explore how identity evolves through loss, change, and imagination…Each sculpture asks what becomes possible when we allow old identities to be dismantled so something new can emerge.”

Go behind the scenes of ARTEFFECTS, the arts and culture program produced by PBS Reno! Hosted by Beth Macmillan, the Executive Director of Artown, ARTEFFECTS has profiled more than 250 local artists since the program debuted in 2016. Some artists have also been featured exhibitors in the Reno Tahoe International Art Show! Join Beth Macmillan, ARTEFFECTS producer Rebecca Cronon, and special artist guests Beck Baumann, Joanna Drakos and Juliette Leong for a lively discussion of this award-winning program!

A warm welcome to Annette Merkushev of .eupthoriaart, who joins the RTIA Show as part of the Galleries & Studios segment - September 17-20!

Growing up in a large slavic household, Annette was always drawn to the more creative world from as early as she can remember. As a child, she would carry sketchbooks and easels where ever she would go; be it to a family gathering, church, even to her friends sleepovers. Being a quieter teenager and finding it sometimes hard to express her emotions and views on the world, Annette would pour it all out on the easel instead.

Now, Annette is married and has children of her own, but the passion for art never once left her life. Balancing motherhood and painting may not be easy, but it makes the thrill of creating so much more enticing. Her works may take a bit longer to create due to being a full time home maker as well as an artist, but it’s also because of this very reason Annette’s artwork is so detailed and curated. Beautiful things take time to come to life.

New to 2026! TMCC Theatre Presents a staged performance of the The Swan Brother, followed by the 'Sign Like a Swan' Workshop!

When Blossom accidentally crosses an old woman, her voice is stolen and her Brother, Robin, is cursed to turn into a swan during daylight hours. Aided by a friendly gnome, Blossom learns to speak with her hands, and must complete a difficult trial to undo the curse before it becomes permanent. Based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, The Wild Swan, this production uses American Sign Language in the telling of the tale.

Sign Like Swan Workshop: This 30 minute interactive workshop will immediately follow the performance of The Swan Brother. Kids and families alike will be taught ASL from the production and how to perform it, just like the Swan Brother!
