StriVe (StriVe) has added former Sound House student Thomas to their lineup. He’s singing backing vocals and playing rhythm guitar so that Kai (Fallen Utopia) can play more lead. Caleb (Caleb Farnsworth) and Kai have been writing new material throughout the summer. Here’s them warming up on “Tornado” by Good Kid before recording an original.

I haven’t posted often this summer, but I’m here to report that Sound House is still doing great. My life is full of sweet students and music friends, as you’ll see in the following photos. If you drive by the studio in the afternoon, you may see me sweeping or eating a banana on the porch.

We went tubing with Oliver. I taught him music back when he was fifteen. He’s twenty-six now. We’re good friends, and he still takes voice lessons.

Guitar and voice student Jamie painted this heron for my spouse. He’s got it up in his office.

The Scoundrels played at Damian’s birthday party. Travis takes voice lessons with me. Garrett studies guitar with me. And Ashley has become my good music friend.

I taught Gavin (right) during his high school band class. Now he’s taking guitar lessons with me as a young adult. He also joined us for Damian’s birthday party since his 21st birthday was a week before.

My sister-in-law and spouse always rep Sound House. Damian actually drew and carved the print on these shirts. We printed and dyed these ourselves.

My former guitar/bass/banjo student Hailey with her boyfriend Jay up at their first place together in Maryland. We went sifting for fossils and then had dinner on the nearby pier a couple of weekends ago. She’s one of my best friends now.

Damian wasn’t feeling well, but he wanted to listen in as I worked on building up a new song. Travis and Ashley stopped by soon after this.

Melody just had her last songwriting lesson before heading off to college.

She brought me this beautiful orchid plant as a goodbye gift.

Abbey made me these pipe cleaner flowers after I gifted her a Finn Wolfhard poster.

we’re wrapping up work on this wonderful human’s five-song EP, “if I’m being honest.” electropop and alt rock, cathartic lyrics and layers of unique vocals… it’s good material. (the song on this post is her singing on The Sunstones EP years ago)

For her fifth Sound House Showcase performance, Melody sang four songs including an unreleased original song called “leave me alone” that she started writing back in 2021 and recently revived. Melody also served as our hostess for the evening, introducing bands and guiding our audience through the evening with her beautiful smile and radiant warm energy.

Melody is wrapping up work on her debut solo EP. Follow to hear what “leave me alone” sounds like in recorded form!

I’m starting to sort through Damian’s photos and videos from our Sound House Showcase. I’ll be sharing some of them in the weeks to come, but the artists and bands who performed will be able to access his full folder soon; I’ll be sending a link via email.

I completely forgot that I took these pictures of Jamie () who is about to celebrate her fifth Sound House anniversary. Isn’t she a precious little creature?

Addison and Fiona have been lessons neighbors for a long time now. Yesterday, when Addison forgot her capo and walked back to the studio to pick it up, Fiona and I invited her to hangout and hear Fiona’s original song. Addison stayed, and we all ended up jamming (Addison on bass, Fiona on guitar, me on drums).

SOMETHING CLICKED. They started dancing, laughing, vibing - and by the end, decided to adopt each other as studio sisters. I’m excited to support them as they build a friendship! Addison is heading into her freshman year of high school and will make a good student mentor. Fiona is heading into middle school and already has impressive lyricist chops. Stay tuned to see what cool music they might make together.
