Alright everyone, it's time for the big reveal!
As many of you have already guessed, this summer the RAHS Junior Players will be doing Shrek the Musical, Jr!
Adapted for middle schoolers, Shrek the Musical Jr follows the ogre Shrek, who just wants to live alone in his swamp until a group of fairy-tale creatures are banished there. To get his home back, he makes a deal with Lord Farquaad and sets off on a journey with a talkative Donkey, eventually rescuing Princess Fiona. Along the way, Shrek learns about friendship, love, and accepting himself, discovering that true beauty comes from within.
Featuring all the characters we know and love, along with hilarious songs and an inspiring message, we can't wait to bring this classic story to the stage! As always, Junior Players is a free summer school program that produces musicals performed entirely by middle schoolers and staffed by high school and college students. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the world of musical theatre and hone the skills needed to produce and perform a musical. All middle school-aged students (including those entering 6th or 9th grade in the fall) are encouraged to audition or sign up to be on crew. Yes, there are plenty of opportunities for you even if you're not looking to be onstage!
Auditions for Shrek the Musical, Jr will take place in the CAL Center on Tuesday, June 9th from 6pm to 8pm. Parents will fill out a contact information form and attend a very brief parent meeting laying out what the rest of the summer will look like. After that, you're free to leave or stick around for auditions. Students will be moved between three different audition stations: acting, singing, and dance. Our audition process is meant to be as LOW PRESSURE as possible! We simply want to see what everyone is capable of, and every student who auditions is guaranteed to be in the show.
Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4-8pm in the CAL Center, starting on June 11th. We will perform Shrek Jr. on July 17th at 7pm, July 18th at 2pm and 7pm, and July 19th at 2pm. We realize that summers can be a busy time for families and we will do our best to work with conflicts that may arise. We appreciate being informed of any upcoming absences or schedule conflicts as soon as possible.
We cannot wait to get started on putting together this amazing show, and to meet the incredibly talented group of kids we'll get to work with this year. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to message us here on Facebook or email us at [email protected]
