𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀?
LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS.
Because, sometimes it IS the industry…
I came across this post on Instagram from Samantha Morton, who was in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. And I have to tell you, I wasn’t shocked. Not because she wasn’t AMAZING in it, she was. In fact I was in awe of all the female actresses in The Odyssey.
I wasn’t shocked because this IS the business. If I’ve learned anything from being in this industry for over 20+ years, it’s that this exact thing, working and then not working, is part of it.
This is exactly what sent me into a depression after BOSCH ended. Because I was told after you do something really big, you go show to show to show. And after it ended, that just wasn’t how it happened for me. And yeah, that sent me into a depression. Especially since some of my other castmates DID jump onto other shows afterward.
But here’s what I took away from that moment, and from reading Samantha’s article. This is a funny business. It doesn’t always go the same way for you that it might go for others. And comparing it to any other profession will just leave you frustrated and jaded. The downtime, the inconsistency in work, that IS part of the business. It’s part of this career.
So what do you do with that? You live your freaking life. You work hard at your career. But you have a full freaking life. Gone is the mindset that if you can do anything else, you’re not a serious actor. BARF.
Do. You. Yes, I believe you and I can make our dreams come true and be that consistently working actor. But just know consistently working actor might look a little different than consistently working banker.
I love you so big. Stay the course and don’t get out of line. It’s coming.
Hold the Vision. Not the Circumstance.
