“Is there a reason you own 30 coffee mugs and 300 cookbooks?”
Yes. When I love something, I’m all in.
A lot of you don’t know that I got started with content marketing by way of food blogging. At 19, I started cooking more for myself, watching a lot of Food Network, reading food blogs and reading cookbooks… like sitting down and literally reading every page. I love the design, the photos and the food stories. I didn’t know where that obsession (or hunger) was leading me at the time. But it ultimately got me where I am today.
These books don’t just sit on the shelf…which is why it was worth it to move them all to my new house this weekend.
My mom was loving how I could tell her which books have the best ice cream cake (Martha Stewart’s Grilling book - random, I know), curry (660 Curries, by Raghavan Iyer, and all of them will blow your mind) or roast chicken (Julia Childs - The Art of French Cooking - but you have to brine it first! 😉)
And I could make you laugh and maybe even cry with more than a few stories about my failures in the kitchen.
I have found that when I’m learning something new and discovering a new passion, failure and success are closely linked. I don’t give up just because this time the biscuits got a little burned. But by the 100th time? My nose literally smells that they are done without even looking at the timer.
So explain the coffee mugs? Those I mostly just think are cute. 🥰
Either way the answer is clear: pack it up and keep doing it. Do it because you love it. That is reason enough.
(Btw Those numbers are rough estimates… I’ll have to count them now 🤪)
