Good morning, we have only 2 days till our concert; see ya there! 🥳
…………
In the meantime meet Sharon, one of our 2nd violinists:
What’s your day job? Or former career?
-I am a retired 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade teacher from the Yucaipa-Calimesa School District.
How many years have you been in RCO?
-I joined in May, 2016. I cannot believe it has been eight years. Mary Bailey was instrumental, pun intended, in my auditioning (scary) for the orchestra, even though I was at best an intermediate player. I have to thank second violins Mary, Greg Schneider, Jenifer Aragon and Donna McNeese Smith for their encouragement and guidance with my non-existant orchestral ability.
What’s your favorite piece of classical music you’ve played?
-Mozart’s Symphony 40 in G minor, Symphonia Concertante in E Major, also Rossini’s Barber of Seville & Italia in Algeri overture. Finally, Dvorak’s New World Symphony (👀)
Who’s your favorite your composer?
-My favorite composer is Tchaikovsky, especially Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.
Do you play any other instruments?
-I began violin lessons at the age of 48 which definitely had its challenges. I am indebted to all of my teachers for fulfilling my third grade dream of playing the violin. I do not play any other instrument at this time. (I took piano lessons as a young child.)
What are you passionate about?
-I am passionate about playing in the orchestra as well as lessons in ballet, pointe and tap dance. I have been a dancer with Melinda Shaner’s Conservatory of Dance and most recently, Stacey Lund’s Yucaipa Dance. I also enjoy gardening and sewing for Trinity Church.
Anything else you’d like social media to know?
-I loved classical music as a child and encouraged my three children to play any instrument. They picked flute, piano, clarinet and guitar. To date, two of my seven grandchildren have explored piano and violin. Hoping they all realize the joy that comes from music at a later age.
