CREATING ABSTRACT ART WITH INTENTIONAL CAMERA MOVEMENT

When most photographers think of Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), what comes to mind is images infused with ambiguity and motion as a consequence of camera movement during a longer than normal exposure with the subject matter being the usual landscapes, street scenes, architecture, people, etc. ICM, however, provides another opportunity when it is taken into a studio environment to create abstract works of art using common materials and a variety of lighting techniques.

On Monday, September 21, photographic artist David Day will present a program to Redlands Camera Club in which he will demonstrate how to construct an ICM studio using materials like plastic bags, tissue paper, wire, glass, newsprint, and a variety of dissected plant parts. He will explore the different methods of camera movement that can then be used along with a variety of post-processing techniques to create unusual abstract works of art with the camera. Throughout the presentation, a variety of images will be analyzed to reinforce the techniques being presented.

This free Zoom-only presentation begins at 7pm Monday, September 21. The public is welcome to attend. For a link to the meeting and more, see the Redlands Camera Club website: redlandscameraclub.org.

Redlands Camera Club program:
FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY

Fire is frequently called a living entity, unpredictable and unforgettable, creating its own weather. On Monday, September 7, photojournalist Brian Spiers will present a program to Redlands Camera Club in which he will explore how photographers can safely and creatively capture the beauty, motion, and emotion of flames. Participants will learn practical techniques for exposing fire correctly, and how to capture action and subtleties to create striking images. The conversation will include essential safety practices, recommended equipment, and creative ideas that can elevate fire photography from snapshots to compelling works of journalism.

This free presentation of the Redlands Camera Club is open to the public and takes place at First Presbyterian Church in Redlands. Find parking and the entrance at 105 South Fourth Street. A social time will begin at 6:30pm with the program beginning at 7:00. The program will also be shared digitally via Zoom. For more information, see the Redlands Camera Club website: redlandscameraclub.org

WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

Join Redlands Camera Club in celebrating World Photography Day!

Following the invention of the Daguerreotype, France on August 19, 1839 gifted that invention to humanity. Materials and equipment improved, and popularity of photography soared. In 1888, George Eastman introduced the Kodak camera with the slogan, “You press the button, we do the rest.” Photography had moved from the studio into the hands of the masses. Today, virtually everyone has a camera, if only the one integrated into their cellphone.

So grab your camera today and take some pics! Shoot and share.

And if you want to learn how to take better photos, consider joining a club. Redlands Camera Club has been around since 1896. It’s the second oldest camera club in all of California. Discover lots of opportunities to LEARN, SHOOT, EDIT, and SHARE your love of photography. Begin by learning more at: https:\\redlandscameraclub.org.
