We just had the honor of being invited to College For Creative Studies so that one of our principal instructors, Richard Seaman could do an artist talk!

Along with Brian Skol we went over Richard's career as an artist and how that path lead to the DRA. We also got to talk about the process we employ, the philosophy behind the work and the method as it concerns materials.

We had a great time, thank you to Gil Ashby for helping to make it happen. We're lucky to have such talent believe in what we're doing.

With our next trimester just around the corner (March 30th!) we wanted to let you know about our new Saturday option!

If you've been wanting to study with us but have a busy work life during the week, we understand, and that's why we've added an extra day. So whether you want to just work on the figure or go deeper into the process, there are options for you.

What makes studying the figure at the DRA worth your time? Well unfortunately most studios and schools don't use natural (northern) light. We take lighting seriously, and you'll be able to see the difference right away. This attention to the importance of light, and learning how to control and capture it is fundamental, and something every artist should study and understand.

March 30th our spring trimester starts back up!

Here's a beautiful Bargue sketch, a work in progress by our talented first year student .malvich
It might not seem like much, but the simplicity and exactness seen here is very hard to achieve. It takes time, dedication and guidance.

Here at the DRA the process we love the most about teaching is helping someone reach that "aha" moment. That realization which makes concepts click together and you can feel yourself improve.

Investing in your skill is the best thing an artist can do for themselves, it gives confidence and capabilities that can take you places you never thought you'd go.

WINTER TRIMESTER STARTS JAN 5th!!!

With our last trimester over, and all of the hard work being done before the holidays, our students take a well needed break.

Would you like to join the DRA for the next trimester? Unlike colleges and art centers, at the DRA we are working professionals who spend one on one time with you all day to help you learn the concepts needed to make work that stands out, art that can compete in the competitive market of the art world.

If developing your art to the best of your ability, and pushing yourself to obtain a skillset you can't get alone is something you're interested in, sign up for our winter trimester that begins on January 5th.

Study the live n**e, do master copies, work on still life projects, learn how to control light and capture it with a program that specifically addresses your hang ups. We take pride in how much we invest in every student who walks through our door.

Congratulations to and .malvich for completing their Bargues this week!

Bargue drawings are difficult projects that require a lot of focus and energy, and we're happy to see them finished to such a high standard.

Precision drawing is the first step to mastery.

Our classes start back up September 22nd!

Are you stuck in your art process and unsure how to get better?

Well it was another fantastic year for .in.the.elements

We had a record turnout of over 2300 visitors to see the show, and many of them had never been to before.

A special thank you to all the painters who came out to paint on the grounds, they all added that extra immersive aspect to the show which makes it truly unique.

We would like to give another shour out to who made an effort to spread the word about the show and who contributed to making it all the more special for visitors and new painters alike.

We can't do this without you all, and for that you have our heartfelt love. Art and community has never been more important.

Gorgeous weather today for Art in the Elements. Special thanks to the artists who came out to join us. We had over 300 people come through to see the show! And Friday is usually the slow day. Tomorrow will be hopping!
