The Golden Ghosts at the end of 2025
The Golden Ghosts Celebrate Seven Years of Global Success; Announce New Projects for 2026
REDDING/SISKIYOU COUNTY – As 2025 draws to a close, the acclaimed historical arts initiative The Golden Ghosts is celebrating a landmark seven-year anniversary. Since its inception in 2018, the project has evolved from a local grassroots education program into an international award-winning cinematic force. Founded by Mark Oliver, Victor Martin, Eddie McAllister, and Abu Salahaddin, the project was born from a mission to reclaim the history of African Americans in the Northstate Gold Rush. Over the last seven years, The Golden Ghosts have successfully dismantled local myths through immersive plays in schools, state parks, and museums, including a premier exhibit at Turtle Bay.
“We’ve reached a point where the history of the Gold Rush is no longer seen through a single lens,” says Mark Oliver. “By including the realities of Native American, Chinese, and Mexican pioneers, we’ve created a richer, truer story of our home.”
The project reaches the new year on a wave of momentum following the success of their recent narrative film. The production—featuring a powerhouse cast of local talent from Siskiyou and Redding—has garnered prestigious honors:
New York City: The Black Lives Matter AwardBerlin, Germany: Best FilmLos Angeles: Best FeatureRecent Honors: Best Soundtrack and Best Supporting Actor (Bobby Milhouse).
While the new year brings a time of reflection, it is also a time of remembrance. The Golden Ghosts dedicate their recent successes to the memory of Sandra Martin, a magnificent artist, poet, and actor who passed away this year. Her profound talent remains a guiding light for the project’s future.
Looking Ahead: The Journey Continues Far from slowing down, The Golden Ghosts are entering 2026 with renewed energy. Artistic Director Mark Oliver says that two new projects are currently on the table, promising to further bridge the gap between historical truth and world-class entertainment.“Seven years was just the foundation, “We are so grateful to everyone who has supported our work, and we can’t wait to share what’s next for the Northstate and beyond.”
