Something a bit different today - I've gone back to the Winsor & Newton postcards. This pint size watercolor will be headed through the mail to a basset aficionado just in time for a special 90th birthday celebration 🥳 I will give it a coat of cold wax before sending to keep it protected from moisture.

I had the pleasure and privilege of being able to paint at The Kuerner Farm yesterday, where Andrew Wyeth painted hundreds of paintings. I am not a plein air painter by any means, but I am trying to get more comfortable with the process. Masses of green are my nemesis so I'm not sure what attracted me to this particular spot, but here we are. We were treated to an interesting tour of the farm before we began painting and I did appreciate the aside by our very knowledgeable guide, that Andrew Wyeth did not want anyone stopping to watch him paint either. You were allowed to give a brief glance then move on.

I recently bought a Linocut Printing ‘kit’ to give it a try. I haven’t carved a linoleum block since I was about 15 years old back in a high school art class. I did quickly realize I prefer the traditional linoleum instead of the pink ‘easy-carve’ plastic stuff that came with the kit. After ordering some proper linoleum, I gave it another go. The donkey is from a photo I took and although I still need to make some adjustments, I’m happy with how the initial print came out.

I have no shortage of scrap watercolor paper - some painted, some with plain areas. Today on this sunny Spring day, I decided to experiment with some Anthotypes…or Turmeric Sun Prints. You begin by painting a solution of turmeric and alcohol on the paper. It is a HIGHLY staining pigment so use appropriate precautions. It dries quickly - arrange botanicals on your paper and cover with a piece of glass (picture frame glass works well here). These were in the sun for about 4 hours. After sunbathing, they get dunked into a bath of baking soda and water to help protect the prints from fading.

Recently Aruba celebrated the 50th Anniversary of their National flag and 40 years of Status Aparte. This year, 'Dia di Himno y Bandera' was celebrated in San Nicolas, controversial for some as the main shows have always been downtown, but it meant a lot to the people of San Nicolas.
