Recently Aruba celebrated the 50th Anniversary of their National flag and 40 years of Status Aparte. This year, 'Dia di Himno y Bandera' was celebrated in San Nicolas, controversial for some as the main shows have always been downtown, but it meant a lot to the people of San Nicolas. I painted this portrait of my Great Niece back in November as a gift, so I couldn’t post until after Christmas. I’m normally not a portrait painter, but after taking the Eudes Correia workshop , I’m giving more a try. I had a handful of photos to work with and ended up creating a new pose, holding the Black-eyed Susan’s. Happy with the results.

October is a busy month. I've just returned from a workshop up in New York with Eudes Correia. Normally, I wouldn't paint the splashy background, as that is very much Eudes's style, but we were encouraged to paint 'like Eudes' for our last workshop painting, so splash it was. This is actually my second painting of 'Peter' which I finished after a helpful critique by Eudes of my first. I feel fortunate to live within a day's drive from this beautiful workshop venue with nice hosts and featured world master watercolor artists.

The last of three paintings I finished for our oldest son, Ryan. I have always called this area beach in Aruba 'Malmok' but now I've noticed some calling it 'Boca Catalina' although I've always thought that was the rocky cove a little further east 🤷🏻‍♀️. Whatever you call it, it's a pretty spot when it's not too crowded.
