In 2017, the Batesville School District in Arkansas faced a $250,000 budget shortfall and struggled to retain teachers because of low salaries.

After an energy audit, the district partnered with Entegrity to install 1,483 solar panels on two campuses, along with upgrades to lighting, heating, cooling, and water efficiency.

The project reduced annual energy consumption by 1.6 million kWh and helped the district move from a $250,000 deficit to a $1.8 million surplus within three years.

Part of those savings went directly back to teachers, with average raises of $2,000 to $3,000 per year and up to $9,000 for some long-time employees. Batesville also became the highest-paying district in its county.

Superintendent Michael Hester said the project helped the district invest in staff while giving students a real-world example of renewable energy.

The success has encouraged nearby districts to explore similar solar projects of their own.
