Reading, PA - November 21st, 2022: Now in its 31st year the Hillside Playground has been transformed (located on North 14th street in the city of Reading) into a Christmas Wonderland. It has become affectionately known as “Christmas on the Mountain”. This free to enter and free to park display, now with over 5 million led lights/Pixels, inflatables, vintage and modern decorations. Has undergone a

major overhaul for 2022. A refurbished classic light show set to your Favorite classic and modern holiday music, All New Character experiences complete with many new habitats, A ridiculous second 4K immersive light show that sets a completely new standard are just a few of the things you can expect for this season. This renovation will reset the bar for the many Berks county residents that consider “Christmas on the Mountain” an annual tradition. They will be immersed in the Christmas spirit when the display opens for the 2022 season on Friday, Nov 25th, 2022. The Display is Open for the 2022 Season 11/25/2022 through 12/23/2022. Reading’s Christmas on the Mountain

The Reading’s Christmas on the Mountain team of volunteers have outdone themselves. “If you would have told me in 2015 after 6 seasons of this display under our care, that it would look like this!? I would have never believed you.! A Free display of this magnitude is just unheard of! To think the largest free light display in the USA is right here in Reading, PA is just unreal! “ said Tim Profit a 1999 RHS Grad. The Reading High School Marine Corps JROTC continue to be committed to the setup and ongoing operational manpower of their of cadets. The cadets and the volunteers have been setting up for the 2022 Christmas Season since October and will continue until the opening on Friday November 25th when the Cadets will transition
to the operational capacity of the display. Reading’s Christmas on the Mountain exists today solely because of the support of local businesses. While The Savage Auto Group and Axcess Industries have provided the majority of the startup and continuous funding. This display would not be possible without the substantial investment in this Reading tradition from these businesses. RAM Trucks

The last few days of each season the “Alumni” (our previously graduated cadets) come home from the military/college/adult life to visit us. These are some of our favorite days as we get to hear them interact and tell the current cadets of their experience here on the mountain. Tonight as we end 10 seasons of our organization operating Christmas on the Mountain. We wanted to call special recognition to these two young men who spent countless hours with us as cadets volunteering here on the mountain. Both these young men enlisted into the Marine corps out of high school this past spring and are already making their mark on this world.
Congratulations to LCPL MONTESSANCHES, MANUEL and LCPL MAKOWKA, MASIAH for achieving the distinction of Honor Grad (the #1 grad) of their company(over 500 recruits) and both were also the Iron man of their company (the most physically fit) of over 500 Marines Recruits . Most JROTC programs in the United States never graduate an Honor Grad or an Iron Man. To graduate two individuals who accomplished both distinctions in the same year at different companies is a testament to the culture and leadership at the RHS MCJRTOC. Please join us in congratulating these young Marines and the instructors of the RHS MCJROTC for pouring so many hours into these cadets to produce these outcomes!

You may notice out front tonight an abundance of Live Christmas trees. Those trees are meant to bring happiness to anyone who may need one. We have about 50 real Christmas trees pre-drilled ready for a good home. We don’t need you to stop and ask. We don’t need you to tell us your story. We just want you to take one if you need one. We hope it spreads a little Christmas joy to home who may need it!

As we stated yesterday, we are closed today Sun December 14th.
The -1 windchill is not something we can put our cadet volunteers out in. So those of you that keep messaging or posting. Are you sure you’re closed? Yes, we are sure.

We will evaluate tomorrow …tomorrow posting our intent to open or close by 3 PM. But there is a high probability we will not be open due to no melt and everything being frozen.

We will absolutely open this evening Saturday Dec 13th. The forecasted snow will not impact us, at the very most we’ll get a beautiful ending to our night with light snow falling. If you thought we were a beautiful attraction under normal circumstances you should see us with light snow. It is literally breathtaking.

We do anticipate being closed Sunday, December 14. Not because of the snowfall but because of the -1 forecasted temperatures. It’s just too cold to ask our characters and staff to operate in. So come join us tonight.

As many of you are aware Reading’s Christman on the Mountain would not be in existence without our Sponsors.

Some of these sponsors are much more than a donation. They become part of the Family… The Magic of Christmas on the Mountain.

Mimmo’s Restaurant is definitely in that category. From day one the Brutto Family has supported us here on the Mountain. From last min orders late on a summer clean up night to donating hundreds of pizzas throughout the season for your purchase at our concession stand. Christmas on the Mountain would absolutely not be the same without you! Please support the businesses that support us. Because of their generosity this Free to Park.. Free to Enter display exists Today!
