We offer classes, workshops, private lessons, open studio time and celebrations all centered around art and creativity for artists of all ages.

Since last Wednesday, I have been thinking about this drawing one of my homeschool students made for me. Our entire interaction was so precious and exactly what I hope for with all of our students at the studio.
He said Ms Sarah, I am going to draw your water cup. I replied, great! I can wait to see it. He proceeded to set the cup in front of him and just start drawing. He asked me how he could draw the flowers and I answered that he should look at them and they to just draw the shapes he sees. He said ok without hesitation and proceeded to look and draw what he saw.
Why is this so precious and important to me? This student has been coming to the studio for a few years and gained so much confidence in his abilities that he never had to stop and wonder if he could draw the cup. He knew he could do it. He knew he could ask for help when he needed it. He knew he could draw my cup and that I would be totally ok with him grabbing it to draw.
Creating isn’t just about the final product, it’s about everything in between. Freedom to choose what he wanted to draw, the material he wanted to draw with, the confidence to do it and the problem solving skills to turn what he saw in front of him into a drawing. I often tell my students that as artists, we are problem solvers. We have to figure out how to get the ideas in our brains out into the world. Creating is about so much more than the art itself. 💞
