We are urgently seeking legal counsel or recommendations for an attorney willing to review a situation involving our Unci (grandma) an elder, and a probate matter that we understood to have been closed in 2023.

She has now received a bill for approximately $6,000 for “interest” , We have serious concerns about whether these charges and actions are legally justified after the probate case was closed, and we need someone knowledgeable in probate, elder law, attorney billing disputes, and liens to review everything as soon as possible.

What makes this especially upsetting is the emotional toll this has taken on our Unci. The stress surrounding this situation has already contributed to her being hospitalized, and receiving another large bill has left her terrified that more charges or actions against her home may continue.

We are not looking to attack anyone publicly. We are looking for someone who can protect an elder, review the records objectively, explain her rights, and determine whether anything improper has occurred.

It is also deeply concerning to our family that the attorney involved publicly identifies as an advocate for MMIW and Native women, while our elder feels intimidated, overwhelmed, and emotionally harmed by how this matter has been handled. Advocacy should include protecting our elders and treating them with dignity.

If you are an attorney or know an attorney experienced in probate, elder law, legal ethics, liens, or attorney fee dispute’s please message us. We want to make sure our Unci (grandma) is protected and that she does not have to carry this fear alone.
