Theatre On The Edge...

The Firehouse Brewing Theatre is an intimate black-box theatre and full-service bar located on the third floor of the Firehouse Brewing Company restaurant in Rapid City, South Dakota. Our theatrical season consisting of two musicals and three plays typically begins in September and concludes in May.

Our current season of shows cover a wide variety of genre, themes and production values. In September, we opened with Sarah DeLappe’s massively popular new play, THE WOLVES, which performed September 13th - October 5th. We opened GREEN DAY’S AMERICAN IDIOT— the explosive rock musical based on their beloved 2004 album, which performs October 18th - November 23rd.

After AMERICAN IDIOT has come and gone, we take a brief break during the busy Holiday season and kick 2020 off with Aaron Posner’s very clever (and quirky!) comedy titled, STUPID F**KING BIRD, which performs January 3rd - 25th. Our next musical production is another rock opera, but this time with a more serious (and somewhat tongue-in-cheek) tone as it tells the story of a family learning how to live a “next to normal” life while the Matriarch of their family suffers from Bipolar Delusional Disorder. NEXT TO NORMAL won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Original Score in 2009. We will proudly present NEXT TO NORMAL February 7th - March 14th.

Finally, we close out our exciting 2019-2020 season with a unique and triumphant play that features live music and dancing (oh, and it’s also another Pulitzer Prize Winner!) Paula Vogel’s touching masterpiece, INDECENT, recounts the true story of controversy that surrounded the play God of Vengeance by Sholem Asch, which was produced on Broadway in 1923. The cast of the original production was infamously arrested on the grounds of obscenity due to an onstage kiss between two actresses. With INDECENT’s relevant themes of art, censorship, love, perseverance, and the power of passionate human beings coming together for the greater good— there is no doubt as to why INDECENT has been quickly referred to as one of the most important plays of the 21st century.
