Dakota Choral Union (DCU) is organized to support and encourage quality choral music in the Black Hills region, primarily through the training of a non-auditioned chorus for performances at concerts and other events. Chorus singers may also be offered opportunities to participate in smaller auditioned choral groups. Other activities that expand awareness and create appreciation of choral music are

undertaken as appropriate. This project is partially funded by the Rapid City Arts Council, in partnership with the City of Rapid City. DCU also receives financial support from the Allied Arts Fund.

🎶 KANTOREI AUDITIONS — YOUR MOMENT TO SHINE! 🎶

Kantorei auditions are happening this Monday, 8/17, at 6:00 PM at South Canyon Lutheran Church — and we want to hear you!

Kantorei is DCU's auditioned a ca****la chamber choir. Rehearsals are Monday evenings at 6PM (right before DCU), and the group performs 3-4 songs at DCU concerts plus special events throughout the year. It's a great chance to stretch your musicianship with a smaller ensemble.

What to expect at your audition:
Vocal range check
Tonal memory
Sight-reading
My Country 'Tis of Thee

Who should audition? Anyone! Current members, former Kantorei singers looking to return, DCU members who've never tried it before — everyone's welcome to try out. (Note: Kantorei members must also be active in DCU.)

Reminder! If you're singing with DCU for July 4th, we are practicing at the Performing Arts Center on Monday (6/29) with just the choir at 7:00pm and with the Municipal Band at 7:30pm. Check your email for all the details.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended DCU's Mozart Vespers concert yesterday! It was a beautiful afternoon for great performances by Kantorei, the Young Vocal Artist winners - Kaya Foote & Maisy Peterson - DCU, DCU soloists and the chamber orchestra from the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra.

Come sing with us this summer! DCU is performing two special events - the Naturalization Ceremony at Mount Rushmore on Friday, June 12, and with the Rapid City Municipal Band on Saturday, July 4th. Email us at [email protected] for rehearsal times and locations. Membership fees are waived for the summer!
