We were somewhat featured in the news again(!!)
Just a side note - clearly, Garth needs to spend more time talking directly with retail shop owners in downtown RC.

Taking a stroll along downtown Rapid City streets and you will notice a good number of empty storefronts.

Last week, the City of Chicago awarded Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art a monumental Community Development Grant of $5 million dollars. This is an amazingly rare feat for an outsider art venue.

Founded in 1991, Intuit is a premier museum of outsider and self-taught art. It is no coincidence Intuit is in Chicago, a city that has long supported outsider art well before its growing acceptance among mainstream art museums and the traditional art world.

Through renovation, Intuit will expand usable audience space from one to three floors – adding two additional galleries, an education and art-making studio, a community gathering space, and an updated exhibition on the life and art of renowned outsider artist and Chicago native Henry Darger – while improving working conditions and safety for guests, staff and the art.

The renovated museum will connect audiences to this art genre through on-site exhibitions and programs and serve as a home base for museum programs in Chicago Public Schools and neighbourhoods.

An Art Gallery on Main Street

The Concept

Take an open retail space that would lend itself to showing art well and have a reunion of visual artists from the Black Hills show artwork during the Summer of 2020.

The Opportunity – Gallery Pop-Up

Greg Geiger and Jay Pond are teaming up to present eight Black Hills artists an opportunity to participate in a June-September Gallery Pop-up. As artists ourselves, we want to explore the financial viability of an artist-centered art gallery in the downtown Rapid City retail market. A short-term test market from June until Sept. provides artist the opportunity to have your work displayed in Rapid City’s central retail district.
