Recently, I became aware of a social media post from a former member of our studio community expressing hurt over being removed from my personal page (not the studio's page). I feel it’s important to address this directly, as EPAC has always been built on openness, kindness, and creating a safe space for our dancers and families.

Like many people, I periodically clean up my personal social media accounts and sometimes remove connections with individuals I do not frequently interact with or personally connect with anymore. This action occurred well before this student left the studio and was in no way connected to their decision or departure.

As instructors and mentors, we strive to be as accessible and supportive as possible for our dancers and families. At the same time, we are also human beings with personal lives outside of the studio. Personal social media pages are just that-personal, and actions taken there should not be interpreted as reflections of a student’s value, worth, or place within our studio community.

It genuinely hurts to think anyone would believe I would intentionally make someone feel unwelcome, excluded, or unsupported. Anyone who truly knows me or knows EPAC knows how deeply I care about creating an environment where dancers feel safe, accepted, encouraged, and free to be themselves. That mission has always been at the heart of Expressions Performing Arts Center and will continue to be for as long as EPAC exists.

While I was saddened that this concern was brought to social media in a way that publicly targeted both myself and the studio, I did personally reach out to clarify the situation and assure them that this was never personal, retaliatory, or connected to their departure from the studio in any way.

EPAC will continue to move forward with kindness, compassion, and a commitment to the students and families who trust us to be part of their lives. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our studio, our instructors, and most importantly, one another.

Thank you,
Melissa

To Our EPAC Family,

As we approach the close of another incredible season in just a few short weeks, we want to share some bittersweet news with all of our dancers and families.

At the end of this season, our beloved Miss MaKayla Plaskett will be moving to North Carolina with her family. While we will miss them all more than words can express, we are so excited for the new adventures and opportunities ahead for them.

Miss MaKayla has been part of EPAC since she was an elementary school student herself, and it is truly hard to imagine our studio without her here each fall. Over the years, she has grown from student, to competitor, to teacher, mentor, and role model to so many young dancers. She is family to us, and the love, passion, patience, and positivity she has poured into EPAC will continue to live on through every student she has inspired.

Her impact on our studio has been immeasurable, and we are forever grateful for the lasting legacy she leaves behind.

As they say in show business, “the show must go on,” and while there is no replacing someone so special, we are excited to announce that fellow EPAC alumna and current instructor Lauren Beacom will be stepping into a newly expanded role beginning this fall.

In addition to continuing her Hooping Class, Miss Lauren will also be teaching:
• Age 2–4 Combo Class
• 6–10 Combo Class
• Lyrical Ballet Class

and assisting Miss Amber in both recreational and competition tap classes.

Many of you already know and love Miss Lauren either as our current hooping class instructor, or from her years at EPAC, where she danced from BEFORE elementary school through her senior year of high school. As a member of our competition teams, she earned multiple Platinum awards and represented Team USA at the World Dance Championships multiple times in both Tap and Jazz/Contemporary/Lyrical.

Beyond dance, Lauren holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Education from the University at Buffalo, where she was also a member of the Impulse Dance Force team. She has completed numerous trainings in early childhood education and development, is an Aspire member through New York Works for Children, and currently works locally at an area preschool and day care.

We are incredibly proud to have such a talented, compassionate, and dedicated instructor continue the EPAC tradition of excellence and family.

Please join us in celebrating Miss MaKayla and all she has meant to EPAC, while also warmly welcoming Miss Lauren into this exciting next chapter.

With love and gratitude,
Melissa and the entire EPAC Team
