I’ve heard it said that lunar eclipses are not really the best time to do magic… because magic typically draws power from the moon, and when the moon is eclipsed by the earth blocking out the sun’s rays, it’s best to just… chill. Rest / relax / restore yourself (not a bad idea, if you’re feeling drained this week anyway). Many witches and magic practitioners will warn that if you cast a spell, it may not work as well as you hope. Although the moon is still there, it’s hidden from our view, and can make it hard to really envision what you seek to do in a spell. If you typically count on the moon as a helper in your magic-making, this envisioning and focus can be obscured. So the advice is more themed toward making a magical time of your rest and relaxation.
But, I’ve also heard that eclipses are a GREAT time to practice magic - that is, for working with your shadow. (No, this does not mean practicing hexes or doing harm to others. We don’t do that. And if you do, remember it comes back to you three-fold.) Shadow work - as in working with the shadow parts of yourself that you typically keep hidden, in the dark, away from the prying eyes of others. Hugging the sad child version of yourself that you’ve kept in a corner for so long, because you didn’t know what to do with her or how to help her. Eclipses can be powerful times to work with those facets of yourself that you shy away from, for whatever reason you’ve deemed necessary. The moon bathes in the earth's shadow, and can clue us into what we have been eclipsing in our own lives lately.
So, is it one or the other for you? Rest, or shadow work? Maybe it’s both, maybe it’s neither? What are you up to this eclipse? It's on Friday… Scorpios and Ta**uses, how are you feeling?
