Dear VCCT friends and supporters:
VCCT is coming to an end. The curtain is coming down for the last time.

After 20 years of productions, large and small, including actors young and young at heart, numerous dedicated crew members, and a loyal audience, the Session of the Village Church has decided to disband the Drama Ministry in its entirety, which includes VCCT.

This is among other changes being made by the Session of the church, in part due to the effects of COVID on our worship and program structure and subsequent strain on resources.

This means we will not have any more productions by the Community Theater. While it is possible that God has a plan that will one day return a theater program to the church, there is no expectation of that at this time. Any news on this will certainly be announced in all possible places, including here, as well as the church website (villagechurch.org).

Thank you to all who have been a part of the life of VCCT– production cast and crew members, supportive audiences, Summer Theater Camp families, staff and volunteers, and all who have become part of the family created by a shared love of theater. So many relationships have started and grown deeper because of this special theater – my heart is filled with joy because of that!

This message comes from me directly so that you would know how much I appreciate having served you, the church, and community through my various roles in the life of this theater (a total of 17 years in various positions.) The privilege of sharing my love and faith with you through theater, praying for and with you along the way, has been an indescribable gift. Please feel free to post memories or thoughts of your experience with the theater here, or email to [email protected]. It is a part of the Village Church history that I would like to compile and share.

Peace be with you (and break a leg!)
Twyla Arant
Outgoing Producing Director, VCCT,
and Director of Drama Ministry, The Village Church

MEET OUR MOVEMENT INSTRUCTOR
for VCCT Summer Theater Skills Camp

Alejandro De la Vega is a Latino actor who migrated to the US during his youth. Due to his tenacity, he learned English within six months, which granted him opportunities to discover his passion for the arts. Throughout his undergrad and grad school years, he achieved several scholarships and a chance to travel to Cuba, Costa Rica, and other South American countries. He was selected to travel to Japan, representing the US in a private class of the Suzuki method, taught by Tadashi Suzuki. He’s quickly developing a name for himself in stage combat for his quick ability to choreograph fights for theater and film, leading him to teach at the Virginia Theater Association Conference.

We are excited to have on board for our Summer Theater Skills Camp:

Danielle Perrault - teaching Speaking Voice for Stage

She is a classically trained singer and actor who has been praised for her “rich and stunning voice” and “great expressive power”. She has enjoyed a varied career singing locally with San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony, and SACRA/PROFANA as well as abroad to stages in Spain, Germany, and Italy.

Comfortable in a wide range of repertoire, recent operatic roles include Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Kate in Pirates of Penzance, Flora in La Traviata, and Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti. She has also performed the alto solos for popular concert works such as Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem

Initially trained as a dancer, Danielle began her musical career in the theater and continues to be an avid performer of musical theater. Some of her favorite roles performed include Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, Sarah in Ragtime, the Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol, and Cinderella's Mother in Into the Woods.

In addition to her singing work, Danielle is the Admin Assistant for Worship & Arts at The Village Church as well as a private singing and speaking voice coach. Her main focus with her students is to instill the most healthy and intuitive vocal technique possible, which allows access to the most versatile palate of vocal expression possible (which makes performing the most fun!). She is thrilled to be teaching the Speaking Voice for Stage class at the Summer Theater Stills Camp, and looks forward to meeting campers soon.

March 11, 2020.
Our last rehearsal at VCCT before the pandemic darkened our stage for a time unknown.
Little did I know that the picture of the stage set up for early rehearsals of the new musical BAMBINO - a stage empty of actors - would symbolize our months of a quiet, dark theater.
We have postponed this musical now until Spring 2022. We are making early plans for another production this fall :)
Meanwhile, we pray good health for you all and look forward to when we will be back on stage together!

A year ago we produced "I'll Be Home For Christmas" - a wonderfully sweet musical with a special story. Can't wait until we can be back on stage again! VCCT plans to produce an outdoor production this spring and we pray for something close to normal next fall/Christmas. Wishing you the blessings of the season!
