Hello Friends,
I am happy to say that we have another opportunity to celebrate life by drumming under the trees at San Dieguito.
We'll be gathering again out our Summer Palace near Area 5 (first flat space on the right after you enter the lower park, then go left at the fork). We'll move back to the Butterfly Garden grove either after the Fall Equinox or Winter Solstice, depending on how the sun & shade changes - TBD!
We certainly are living through "interesting" and stressful times - it will be lovely to take a break and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature, our camaraderie, and drumming. We'lll again plan to have "quieter instruments hour" from 1 pm to 2 pm, then crank up the volume after 2 pm.
See you there!
Special announcements:
1) Cottonwood Creek Park Family Musical Gathering (Krista, Dameon aka Captain Clear) Drum Circle this Friday June 5th 1 pm onwards (I'll be slogging away at work but if you are free, it is a lovely spot.)
2) Same folks above are considering holding a solstice drum circle at San Dieguito on 6/20 1 pm on, specxial something circle at 3 pm. (If they decide to hold it and there's enough interest, I can set aside time to attend this one.)
3) Monette's drum group (includes Kai) is drumming for Juneteenth event on Sunday June 14th some time between 1 pm and 5 pm at 710 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas 92024 ; overall event info at [email protected] (I have a conflict as I've promised to go hear some friends play at the Space Bar in La Mesa, but can whole-heartedly recommend anything Monettte is doing!)
4) If you like loud '90's music, Flannel Mixtape (I play bass) is playing at McGuffie's in La Mesa 4 pm to 7 pm on August 8th. (Thank you, Lettie, for coming to the debut show!)

It's the first Saturday of the month - time to celebrate life again by enjoying making some rhythmic noise under the beautiful trees at San Dieguito.
We generally play from 2 pm to 5 pm. Some of us sometimes get there earlier like 1 pm to play quieter music for the first hour with guitars, flutes, and/or ukeleles, or even earlier like noon to hold the spot. Sometimes we quit earlier if it is too chilly, too hot, too wet, or we just feel like it. :) You can try calling my cell to get a status at (619) 405-0571. Sometimes my cell service is weak though. . Text might also work; but making the phone ring is best.
Our Drum Circle is held at San Dieguito County Park, the lower park. Take I-5 to Lomas Santa Fe (Solana Beach). Go East to the first stop sign which is Highland. Turn left (North) and go down the hill to the bottom where the street ends at a 'T' at El Camino Real. Turn right at the T, then the lower park entrance will come up shortly on your right. There's a kiosk where you pay $5 to park (recommend getting an annual pass - see below - or park outside and walk in for free). After the kiosk you can go right or left.
NOTE: All the locations are open to the public and we cannot reserve them SO if some other group has already claimed “our” primary spot, we’ll move to our secondary spot. If both are taken, we look for the next best spot. Drive around a listen for drums and/or text me. I pasted in a map image of the two main locations below.
Winter Palace: Butterfly Garden Grove - enter at the Lower Park entrance. After the kiosk, go right at the “T”, then all the way to the loop at the end. We set up down the hill from the Butterfly Garden.
Summer Palace: Flat spot near Picnic Area 5 - enter at the Lower Park entrance. After the kiosk, go left at the “T”, then we’ll be at the first flat spot on the right (or maybe on the left if the right is not available).
If it’s raining, we will try for the Wedding Gazebo or, if more people show up than can fit under it, we might move up to the large covered area at Area 1 in the Upper Park (you have to exit and re-enter at the Upper Park entrance).
Hopefully you will hear or see us with the drums. Sometimes a Park Ranger will be at the kiosk and know where we are playing.
