The feedback we’ve gotten from our campers and parents this summer is filling our cups…thank you so much for the encouragement to keep doing what we’re doing! What I LOVE about running Creative Camps is that art is a vehicle for so many things…
⚡️ Connection with others (as well as with any other subject matter you could imagine!).
⚡️Discovering sparks that lead to lifelong passions and/or careers.
⚡️Life lessons like resilience, self-regulation, and experimentation within boundaries.
⚡️Trying new things, building skills, and gaining confidence.

For me (Megan O’Connor Upchurch ) there’s always been more to Creative Camps than just making cute crafts. Swipe to see some of the other emphases of our summer camps and whether we’re a good fit for your family!

How to Train Your Dragon camp last week (pictured above) allowed us to explore pretty much all our values. Though we incorporate them to some degree in each session, some camps are more focused on certain aspects, like skill-building with a specific material. In How to Train Your Dragon, there’s a giant dragon that lives in a pit and forces all the other dragons to go out in search of sheep to drop into its waiting jaws. Here’s how we recreated that scene at camp using just yarn and bowls 🐑 Their imaginations easily filled in the rest - and of course a few campers became too emotionally attached to their sheep to toss them over the edge. (If I’m honest, that probably would have been me as a kid, too ;))

Did we save the best camp for last? Honestly, when a parent requested this custom camp theme…I had no idea how much fun it would be to plan it - and now to run it!

Yesterday we made dragon log books for the week - and campers helped clear the grounds after recent storms by finding twigs to use for the binding ;)
We learned Viking-style lettering.
I made some activity pages for the inside of the books and the first was to imagine they’d found a new dragon species. What are its special features and what would the species be named? Etc.
We then made large drawings/diagrams of the new dragons and gave the drawings a weathered look by ripping the edges and dribbling tea on them. Then we played a game in the “Arena.”

And if you didn’t catch this at the beginning - yes, you can request camp themes and recruit campers to join 😊
