#FamiliasSeparadas in Raleigh, North Carolina is still on view for a limited time Artspace
Raleigh was the first of the three unveilings of public artworks presented by the Familias Separadas project in June 2021. Each artwork, measuring 10’x20’ high, was installed on the exterior walls of Artspace. The large scale portraits highlight the stories of three undocumented community members, Angelica, Carmen, and Óscar that reside in or near Raleigh.
As part of Phase 3 of the"Familias Separadas" public art project, I unveiled a series of large-scale public art installations in North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Colorado.
The public art installations visualizes the testimonials of community members that have experienced detention, are in sanctuary, or have experienced family separation or deportation. Each installation site was chosen to call attention to nearby detention centers: Wake County Detention Center (NC), Strafford Detention Center (NH), and Aurora Detention Center (CO), and highlight that our unjust immigration policies do not begin at the border, they spread throughout our nation.
Learn more about the project, hear the community stories, and register for our upcoming film screening in Raleigh. Go to

We need your help! Do you care about the arts and think they are essential to our community's recovery and healing from the pandemic?
Wake County Government has released a short survey on how they should use American Rescue Plan (ARP) fund-open from now until December 17. Please take a moment and fill out the survey to let Wake County know that the arts are not frills or extras, but rather important investments in our community!

If you haven't already, visit Artspace and check out MMXIX: I'M GLAD YOU BELIEVED IN ME (October 1-31st). A collaborative exhibition between Alexys J. Taylor, former Exhibitions + Collections Manager of The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, and The Black on Black Project and artist Marcus Kiser exploring the impacts of mental health on Black communities.
And join the conversation on Wednesday, October 20th at 7pm.
"The conversation will use Kiser’s solo exhibition, MMXIX: I’M GLAD YOU BELIEVED IN ME, as a starting point to look at how we handle grief, how we discuss mental health with our youth and the complexities of how race and gender play a role in understanding mental health."
