Our social bulletin board on theOtherSide will continue until August 30. Here is the installation that piece was pulled from. We spent a hot summer in London Cell Project Space in 2009. Jerstin Crosby Leah Bailis Josh Rickards and withDrawingRoomNC built this show and the best possible time with our gracious hosts Milika and Richard! Feeling the heat this week took me back those 2 weeks we all spent together.

Please join us August 13th 6-8pm — for our final exhibition/project. North Carolina interdisciplinary artist Calvin Brett will present 800, a multimedia art exhibition that uses the number 800 to symbolically represent the approximately 800 million people currently living in
extreme poverty worldwide. Through installation, video, augmented reality and wall art using repeated visual forms, the exhibition seeks to make an incomprehensibly large number tangible, creating a reason to contribute to The Borgen Project’s non profit efforts to end extreme global poverty.

The Last Picture Show

The 1990’s in San Francisco was a place many people would have liked to be. Many people painted on other peoples things and got lots of money to do so. There were many people who did things like play the banjo or ride on skateboards. Everyone liked to help one another and there were many ‘non-profits’ to keep it all afloat. Ten years later this ‘movement’ was retroactively named the “Mission School.” This was during the peak of the dotcom bubble. The lucky people were able to keep painting on other peoples things while coming to own the physical properties in which they lived and worked, as well as the intellectual properties for the songs they wrote and the paintings they made. Their children would go to art school and try to reform things.

Housed in Downtown Raleigh’s iconic Warehouse District, The Dillon is the former site of Dillon Supply Co. Founded in 1914 by Clyde Alvin “C. A.” Dillon, Sr. and his brother, Grover L. Dillon. What started as a small hardware storefront at 121 West Martin Street, grew over the next 57 years into a multimillion dollar business with hundreds of employees and branches providing jobs, hardware, and industrial equipment for the military, agriculture, textile & to***co industries. Now home to studio, one, two and three bedroom apartment homes, The Dillon joins Raleigh’s award winning revitalized warehouse district’s nonprofit art galleries, studios, restaurants, nightlife and local businesses. Quickly identified by repurposed red-brick, converted industrial buildings, come, take a tour of our unparalleled amenities, stroll through the neighborhood, and enjoy the view while we embark on a new era in The Dillon’s history. Neill Prewitt performs “Emotional Real Estate”

Neill Prewitt grew up in Raleigh and his first solo show was at Lump in 2011. He’s returning with a solo performance of his 2024 rock opera “Emotional Real Estate,” about a new dad struggling to do the best for his kid in an overpriced housing market. Priced out of the middle-class lifestyle he was raised in and expects to be able to provide, Dad is tempted to mobilize behind his grievances, but emerges with some self-awareness to pass on. Neill recently became a dad, so this rock opera is about 20 minutes long.
A/V Geeks presents “My Dad”

The A/V Geeks present a screening of vintage 16mm films celebrating (and side-eyeing) fathers everywhere. Classroom films and industrial oddities featuring the good dads, the bad dads, and the ones that make you grateful for your own. Projected live from original prints.

LAST RITES: Call for Submissions

The end of an era some call “Classic Lump” is coming to a transitional point August 31st. On the Other Side, we’ve started an evolving, social monument called ‘Last Rites’. We are inviting artist’s to respond in an ephemeral and photographic way to tell the story of Lump which all began in 1996. If you had an exhibition or know anyone who was in a show, played a show or rented a studio between September 1996 thru August 2026, please think about submitting photos, invites, artwork (smallish) to our ever changing wall that tells the story of Lump. We will be making our way forward as things roll in. And in August we will invite the community to respond to what Lump has meant to them over these last 30 years! Spread the word!
