Betty McKim is coming back to Pullen Arts Center to teach this very special workshop in the Betty McKim Jewelry Studio, named for the renowned local jeweler and teacher. This workshop will focus on how to use multiple layers in a collage-like way to create depth and interest in a narrative pendant or brooch. McKim will guide you through making this piece of jewelry using a wide variety of techniques and materials. You are welcome to bring a small found object or treasure to incorporate in your creation, and/or an image you would like to dissect and depict in your piece of jewelry. Techniques will include rivets, tabs, texture, soldering, sawing, and tube setting small, faceted gemstones. As findings, you will learn to make either a simple pin back or a hanging mechanism for a pendant. Beginners are welcome as this project can be adjusted to multiple skill levels, otherwise jewelry sawing and soldering skills are helpful. A basic supply kit may be purchased from the center for $25. Supply information prints on receipt.

Join us for the Fill My Cup: Resin Bezel Vessels weekend workshop!

Resin is a wonderful medium that allows artists to tell a story while capturing and preserving memories. Make your own beautiful and meaningful jewelry element by working with 2-part epoxy resin and tinting material to fill a custom fabricated vessel. Students are encouraged to bring objects, ephemera, trinkets, foliage, etc. they would like to encapsulate. Discover the vibrant possibilities of enameling in this two-day, hands-on workshop focused on silkscreening and stencil sifting on copper. Using specialty enamels designed for silkscreen applications, you'll experiment with pre-cut copper shapes - including a custom light switch cover - to explore how pattern, texture, and color can come alive in fired enamel. You'll create a series of samples as you learn, giving you plenty of room to play, practice, and refine your designs. A required $40 fee covers specialty supplies such as Sunshine Enamels, gel medium, blackboard (pre-enameled steel), light switch covers, and assorted copper blanks. Join us for a colorful, creative, and productive workshop that welcomes all skill levels.
