Thresholds invites photographers to consider the places, experiences, and moments that exist between states of being. We are interested in photography that engages with transition and liminality—between interior and exterior, presence and absence, intimacy and distance, memory and experience, the known and the unknown.
The threshold may be architectural or psychological, personal or collective, tangible or imagined. It may be marked by a dramatic event or exist in the quietest of gestures: a pause before leaving, a landscape at dusk, a body in transition, a familiar place rendered unfamiliar.
We welcome work that embraces ambiguity and resists easy definitions. Photographs that reveal thresholds, question them, cross them, or linger within them all are welcome.
Through this call, we seek a diverse range of photographic perspectives on the spaces between what has been and what is yet to come.
A Threshold is more than a doorway…
