Sometimes you need to make an instrument stick out in a dense mix, or add a bit of analog flavor to a vocal, and that’s when a saturation plugin can be very useful. If you are looking for a budget friendly option and can’t afford a plug in like Soundtoys Radiator, I found that Tube Saturator Vintage is an awesome option. ⠀⠀

I use this plugin a lot when I need to add those nice mid and upper harmonics that help to draw a listeners ear to a specific instrument when there is are many competing layers in the same frequency spectrum. Rather than boosting EQ, it can be much more pleasing to the ear to use saturation to achieve this outcome.⠀

Rather than distorting all frequencies across the spectrum evenly, sometimes it is useful to only distort certain bands of frequencies. If you are on a budget and can’t afford a plug in like Fabfilter Saturn, I have found WingsMusic Fire to be a great alternative. ⠀
⠀
I commonly use this plug in on my master bus to subtly distort high frequencies, which brightens up a dull mix with those extra high harmonics.⠀
