After decades of presenting Smooth Jazz in New York as a Producer for NY-based Marquee Concerts and as a Promoter, the founder of the CD101.9 Smooth Cruise is bringing live “Contemporary Jazz” and R&B to New Jersey. Rich Engel is a lifelong New Jersey and NYC resident who has been involved with Smooth Jazz in NY for decades. He is the original founder of the “Smooth Cruise,” a two-hour music saili

ng on the Hudson River, with a view of the New York City skyline. With the advent of COVID-19, the Smooth Cruise ended operations after the summer of 2019. Recognizing that approximately half of the passengers on the Smooth Cruise New York were making the trip from N.J. to see the top names in Adult Contemporary Jazz and R&B, it seemed apparent that a void existed. With too few venues in New Jersey offering live Grammy-winning Smooth Jazz and R&B artists, Engel founded Smooth Jazz New Jersey in 2020. The mission is to bring live nationally recognized contemporary Jazz and R&B music to venues in New Jersey.

JAZZ ROYALTY COMES TO THE HAMILTON STAGE.
June 6 marks the date when Jazz Royalty comes to Hamilton Stage with Dizzy Gillespie alumni and Grammy winning bassist John Lee in collaboration with 16-time Grammy winner Paquito D’ Rivera.
These two giants of jazz will be backed by the world famous and world traveled Dizzy Gillespie All Stars featuring one of the most sought-after trumpeters around, Freddie Hendrix. Expect some Dizzy Gillespie classics and some foot stomping rhythms as Paquito shows off his prowess on clarinet and saxophone from the Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Latin period.
Come early to the WBGO Piano lounge, have a cocktail on the couch and hear the incredible Leonieke Scheuble perform her tribute to Dizzy on the Fazoli Grand Piano. Her performances are at 4PM and 7PM.

Live at the Hamilton Stage on SATURDAY, JUNE 6: Dizzy Gillespie alumnus and Grammy winning bassist JOHN LEE collaborates with 16-time Grammy Winner PAQUITO D’RIVERA & the DIZZY GILLESPIE ALL STARS! This amazing lineup will perform 2 intimate shows at 5 PM and 8 PM.

Come early to visit the adjacent WBGO Piano Lounge to hear prodigy pianist Leonieke Schuble perform on the Fazoli Grand Piano. Sets at 4 and 7 PM. *Concert tickets not required for the Piano Lounge.*
