Starting Bisa Butler projects with my students. Bisa Butler is a portrait quilt artist but my students will be using paper and assembling it as a collage. Middle schoolers are doing simplified animals and high schoolers are doing portraits. I know I'm asking a lot of my high schoolers but I really want to challenge them and encourage them because these could be so cool if they stick with it.

My middle school sample is a chameleon and high school sample is Duke Ellington.

My "Littles" (4K-2nd) in summer school finished their 'Frogs on Water Lilies' project. We looked at Monet's 'Water Lilies' Painting. We discussed that all art doesn't need to look realistic like in Monet's painting it just gives you the Impression of a pond with Water lilies. We practiced mark making with watercolor paint to get different values of the blues, greens and pinks. These papers were then used as the water and cut out to be lily pads and water lilies and glued on the base.

We talked about the color wheel and basic color mixing with this project. We has The primary colors in model magic to use, so we had to learn which colors mixed together to make the green for our frogs. The students had fun and got a good fine motor skills workout squishing and blending the yellow and blue model magic.

The kids seemed to have a good time with this project. With our extra model magic they had fun experimenting with color mixing.
(Missing a few kids projects because they are absent but want to share because the kids seemed very proud of them.)

My 3rd-5th graders learned about the color wheel and complementary colors. So we created 'COMPLEMENTARY CHAMELEONS'. Here's a few of them that got finished today. Some students chose to add accessories to their chameleons. There were crowns, Beats Headphones, teeth, etcetera added. Pretty fun to see how each one was unique.

Flash Back from my last school... We read In Flanders Field and discussed the imagery and how literature and visual art go hand in and. Each 3D Poppy that was made if the student was able to get info of a loved one wrote that veterans name, rank and brach of service on the pedals of their poppy. The two soldier silhouettes were of the veterans the school was named after.

SUNFLOWERS HIGH FIVE! Finally got to put up my students' Sunflower Weavings. We got to talk about what is going on in Ukraine as well as what effects that has on us here in the US. The Sunflowers were such a nice addition above our current art display cases. (This was back in April but just getting to post now. Lol

Every year our school district put on an exhibit of all student work at Wustum Art Museum, one of our local art museums. This year was extra special because with Covid we hadn't done one in 2 years. It was such a nice turn out of students, families and staff all to celebrate the beautiful art the students in our district created.
