People will bring me old jewelry they've had sitting in a jewelry box for years, to reset new diamonds they've recently acquired or purchased. In this case, my client brought me this beautiful pink diamond to set into an antique ring that was her grandmother's. It's a very lightweight and delicate ring that needed a more substantial and durable setting that would also go with the design of the ring. This is what I came up with.

The latest addition to my inventory comes in the form of this heavy weight silver cuff featuring a vivid spectrum of rubies, sapphires, emeralds, spinels and iolite. This is a larger sized cuff for an 8"-8.75" wrist, and it is omnihuman, meaning I made this for anyone with a wrist, regardless of identity, because I love ALL HUMAN BEINGS inherently. I'm over here trying to be an ASMR Superstar with some simple line engraving on a silver cuff bracelet.

I have been engraving since 2009. It remains one of the most enjoyable work tasks I do. I usually use my GRS Gravermax which is a pneumatic power assist, spring and piston hand piece system that makes jobs like this incredibly fast and with so much less effort.

Lately, though, I have been obsessed with dressing and sharpening my gravers with a finer degree of precision so that I can achieve the results I desire. I've gotten the sharpening down to an exact science with an exact order to the sharpening process. I know I have it correct in how smooth and minimal the effort is to make each cut, the control I have with each cut, and the mirror polish finish that each cut achieves, all without the need for the power assist! It really is incredibly satisfying. Granted, I am just doing straight cuts in this video.

The lesson here is to always find opportunities to hone techniques wherever that may be, pursue excellence in as many ways as possible, and revisit the trunk of your skill tree every now and then. That's where you might find some treasure you missed the first time you were there.

There are a lot of businesses selling jewelry, but not nearly as many businesses are making jewelry, from start to finish, like I do. Even fewer are still hand carving wax models because of how good CAD software and 3D printing is. I love carving wax with simple hand tools, casting them, finishing them....the entire process is so satisfying!!

The ring you see here is cast in 18k gold and it features design elements specifically requested by my client (and awesome friend). I also used vitreous enamel on the background of the centerpiece, which is the high heat kind of enamel that basically turns to glass at 1400 degrees.

A couple of years ago, a colleague and friend wanted to come watch me carve wax for a couple of days here in Quincy before they moved to Aberdeen, Scotland. As a surprise gift, I was given a sheet of really spectacular Damascus steel with a phenomenal pattern. Today, I went to LN Bross over in Palmyra, Missouri to pick up the pieces I had them cut with their water jet cutting machine. I have a piece of zebra wood my friend Alicia gave me in Eugene like 15 years ago, that I am going to use as the handles and sheaths of these little fellas. I plan on making each one unique in some way. If you want to claim one for yourself, let me know and I'll send you payment info to out your deposit down.

Hand made in Sterling Silver, set with a very cool and unique agate with a natural druzy quartz pocket, accompanied by a spectrum of spinels I had on hand that match the colors of the agate pretty perfectly!!
