Sometimes adding miniatures to a sculpture can help “plus it up” by adding points of interest and increased storytelling. In this case, some rats underneath the davenport-style sofa running to and up the arms of their mistress, Disease would help sell the dangerous hunger of the sculpture. Sculpting little prop characters like this requires simple gestural shapes, no armature wire, and a lot of texturing. Big props to my illustrating collaborator for the idea of including rats!

I Was Honored To Design A Cake Topper For My Friends .c and Dil’s Engagement Party

I felt that making three brides that look and act like brainwashed triplets would be boring, so instead I focused on sculpting unique characterization on each one. For the newest of Dracula’s Brides, I imagined that her hunger would be the strongest, making her the most feral of the three. Later, I was inspired by my collaborator Cody Lennon that one Bride should have a relationship and command of the rats of Castle Dracula. All of this came together in a picture of a Bride who embodied Disease, with a poisoned, insatiable hunger.

Anatomy and gesture are skills that will take an artist a long way, but cannot tell every story by themselves. Costume & fashion design is the realm of dresses, period pieces, armor, and character ornamentation. For this sculpture, the Three Brides of Dracula, my aim was to create bridal couture dresses of different styles, cut, and textures so that each Bride would be a distinct individual while still fitting within the set. What kind of wedding dresses do you imagine for these undead brides?

Entering The Invisible Man At The Bayside Winter Art Show was a blast as always. The work was up for a whole month in a storefront window at the Bay Terrace Shopping Center for all to see. Getting go see people in real life react to my work is one of my most satisfying feelings. Folks seem to really enjoy the illusion of invisibility that I created with the piece. Thanks to Laura, Brita and Paul for making the Art Show so amazing and thanks to for being my date and taking these pictures!

Someone reached out because they liked what I did with my sculpture version of The Phantom of the Opera, and said they wanted to see what my Bride of Frankenstein or Wolfman would look like. I agreed, so much in fact that I had already sculpted those characters this year and am very happy to show them off again with specific callouts to how I represented them in clay.

It seems like NOBODY wants to see the Phantom of the Opera look super handsome with a mild case of sunburn! In my clay sculpture version, he’s a mix of the original character as presented in the novel with an added Attack on Titan (gore) aesthetic. What do you think for this dark fantasy classic?

The Phantom of the Opera is such an excellent villain and monster, worthy of a robust online discussion regarding his evil deeds. In this video I spray paint my recent sculpture all white to unify the clay, cardboard, and plastic into a more singular experience for the audience. What do you think about the Phantom? Is he a misunderstood bad boy of the theater, or a narcissist on a rampage?

Sculpting The Phantom Is The Most Twisted Villain in Fiction
-
As I sculpt the final details onto my clay sculpture of The Phantom of the Opera in this video - I speak a bit about the dark fantasy antagonist who has haunted the music hall for over a century. In almost any version of the plot, the Phantom is a possessive force of malevolence.

In this video I’m sculpting clay details onto my 13-inch sculpture of The Phantom of The Opera, a character represented across pop culture for over a century. Tightening up little details like the rose on his lapel, the ascot tie, and the iconic mask. I’m hoping to be able to have this piece look as twistedly alluring as the character has made me feel in the past.
