My grandmother told me

Look at her for a second before you find the joint.
Dolled Up Legacy is a collection of ten paintings of women who are not women. Each one is a wooden artist's mannequin: jointed at the shoulder, the elbow, the knee; dressed in the full glamour of the 1950s and posed against a sun-bleached Caribbean wall. I painted them beautiful on purpose. The discomfort is supposed to arrive late, the way it does in life: you admire her first, and only afterward notice she was built to be admired.
The 1950s industrialized the perfect woman: the polka dots, the halter neck, the cat-eye sunglasses, the waist, the smile... and sold her back to us as aspiration. A doll is honest about what that image always was. She is posable. Someone else decides how she sits, where she looks, what she wears. That is the legacy in the title, and it did not end with the decade. Across the globe women are still measured by silhouette before sentence, still assembled from parts, still asked to hold the pose.

Notice what ages and what does not. The wall behind her peels and fades; she stays flawless and fixed. The paint is warm because the cage is comfortable, and comfort is the most effective cage there is.

Every work begins the same way: Prismacolor colour pencil on paper, drawn by hand before any digital refinement, painting or colour. There is a real drawing under every one of these dolls.

Fourteen arrivals. One woman. Never the same language twice.

Swipe and watch her change form — from a painted shore, to a cubist fracture of gold and teal, to the quiet of a dove holding the horizon.

01 · She arrives already crowned. The conch at her feet is the shell Botticelli gave a goddess, moved to our water.
02 · The inspiration, read left to right like an arrival.
03 · The process. Look closely and you can still see the pencil — every work here begins as colour pencil on paper.
04 · A detail worth stopping on: the spiral in her ear is the same spiral inside the shell.
05 · A held breath. The rose waits under glass; the dove does not move.
06 · First light. She is not being discovered — she is simply here.

The shifting styles are not indecision. They are the argument. A figure who holds under cubist fracture, pop flattening, surrealist displacement and pencil tenderness is not a borrowed icon. She is a durable one.
