AUDITION NOTICE – OPEN CALL
Fences by August Wilson
American Classics Repertory Company
at Chestnut Street Playhouse
DATE: SUNDAY June 1, 2025
TIME: 2pm-4pm
WHERE: Chestnut Street Playhouse 24 Chestnut Street in Norwich
PERFORMANCE DATES: October 16-26 (Thursday–Sunday)
DIRECTORS: Leslie Snow & Tom Stokes
WHAT TO EXPECT: Auditions will consist of reading scenes – sides will be provided at the audition. If you are cast, actors are required to learn lines as quickly as possible and refrain from watching videos of other productions or the film.
SEEKING ACTORS for the following roles ONLY:
Bono: Male (age range from mid thirties to early forties) best friend to Troy Maxon.
Corey: Male (age range from late teens to mid twenties) youngest son of Troy Maxon. Intensely plays high school football and later joins Marines. Must be comfortable singing a brief family song with Raynelle.
Lyons: Male (age range from mid-twenties to early thirties) oldest son of Troy Maxon. A jazz musician and easy going.
Raynell: Female (age range from eight to eleven) only daughter to Troy Maxon. The child playing this role can be a bit older but must be able to look much younger. She has one scene at the end of the play and must be able to handle the theatre schedule for two weeks in October. Must be comfortable singing a brief family song with Corey, her half-brother.
Fences is a Pulitzer Prize-winning classic by August Wilson. Set in Pittsburgh in the 1950s, Fences is the sixth installment in The American Century Cycle, a series of ten plays by August Wilson that trace the Black experience throughout 20th century America.
NOTE: American Classics Repertory Company has been presenting in Northeastern, CT for over ten years. Our previous productions have included: I Never Sang for My Father, Come Back Little Sheba, Private Wars, A Member of the Wedding, The Price, the Dresser (Chestnut Street Playhouse), House of Blue Leaves (Chestnut Street Playhouse), A Raisin in the Sun, Gem of the Ocean and now Fences.
