Something new and exciting is coming to Destination Event Co. this fall: Youth DJ Academy!
Designed for kids ages 8–12, this six-week program will give young music lovers the chance to learn real DJ skills right here in our Putnam showroom.
DJing is a fun, hands-on way for kids to build a deeper understanding of music. They’ll learn how to hear and count beats, recognize song structure, understand rhythm, blend music by ear, and discover why certain songs work well together — all while building confidence and creativity.
And this won’t be a “watch and listen” class.
From day one, students will get hands-on experience with DJ equipment and the tools used to mix music, learning by actually doing rather than just watching demonstrations.
Classes will be kept intentionally small, with just five students per group, so every child gets plenty of individual attention and time to practice.
Over the six weeks, students will learn DJ fundamentals, a little about the history and culture of DJing, how to mix and transition between songs, and how to build their own short DJ set. At the end of the program, they’ll get to show off what they’ve learned by performing for family and friends at a live recital.
Classes will be taught by Tim O’Shea, co-owner of Destination Event Co. and a professional DJ with 30 years of experience, alongside Michael O’Keefe, professional musician, DJ, educator and music teacher.
